NBC's Nancy Snyderman

nancy snyderman nbc

Above is Dr. Nancy Snyderman.  She is or was NBC's chief medical editor and correspondent.  She went to Africa to report on the Ebola outbreak that is occurring back in October.  One of her crew members contracted the virus while in Africa and she and the crew were to return home and upon return go into quarantine for 21 days.  Snyderman said that she would quarantine herself for the 21 days on the air and told people that she was setting an example for others in the proper medical procedures for this virus.  However, a few days after beginning her quarantine people and later local news outlets spotted her in New Jersey out and about getting food and other things.  She was obviously not following her own advice or doing what she told the world she would do.  Since then she has not been heard from or seen.  This includes social media.  People are posting to her facebook page with no response.  What people are wondering is if she still works for NBC.  She was suppose to return sometime in November but there has still been no sign of her.  With no NBC executives willing to comment, one is left to wonder if her credibility as a news anchor and analyst is shot.  To read more about this click on the link below.

Ferguson Prepares for Verdict

Ferguson, MO reported that it is stepping up preparations in loo of the pending grand jury verdict on whether or not there is enough evidence to send the case involving a police officer who shot and killed a 16 year old boy will go to court or not.  The jury is set to reconvene Monday morning and continue their final deliberations.  It will only require a 3/4 majority vote to make this go to trial.  Due to the high level of protesters and violent protesting and looting in the previous weeks, police are expecting to have large volumes of protesters and are taking steps such as barricading city hall and the governors office.  They are also setting up barricades and increasing presence where they suspect the most problems.  The governor of Missouri has declared a state of emergency and the national guard has been called in to help assist the FBI, ATF, State and local police in dealing with the problems occurring in Ferguson.  Here is a link to the Foxnews.com interview with a Ferguson detective explaining the steps they are taking to prevent any rioting or violence.

Live Streaming

Protesters in Ferguson, Missouri have developed a new type of media called live streaming.  What live streaming does is it allows people to use their cell phones to stream live video footage of what they are capturing on camera to the world through the internet.  How it works is the cellphones connect to an internet hot spot.  After an internet connection is established, you use streaming software to broadcast this footage.  This software for streaming is accessed through an app or by downloading it straight to your phone from your computer or the internet.  This is a revolutionary new media because the protesters started using this to be able to broadcast a real uncut video of what was going on.  They like it because their message doesn't get twisted or shortened by media outlets editing footage and analyzing things.  This streaming gives people a real look and uncut video of what is really going on there.  Some like it because there is no commentators and they have the ability to digest the footage for themselves.  Check out this link so you can see the interview on CNN about it http://thelead.blogs.cnn.com/2014/11/14/protesters-in-ferguson-armed-with-new-media-prepared-to-stream-events-live/

CIA uses Twitter to release facts on the Argo mission

The CIA released several twitter messages on November 4th, the anniversary of the Argo Mission.  The twitter messages were some released facts about discrepancies between the movie starring Ben Affleck and what happened in the actual mission.  One of the differences was that the 6 diplomats were never taken into the marketplace to scout locations.  They stayed at the Canadian embassy for 79 days.  Another difference between the movie and the mission was that there were 2 CIA officers sent to exfiltrate the six diplomats out of Iran not one as portrayed in the movie.  What is cool about his article is the fact that one learns that the CIA has a social media team and that they chose to use twitter as the medium to convey their information.  To read more about this check out the article by clicking this link http://www.cnn.com/2014/11/07/politics/cia-tweets-argo/index.html?hpt=po_c2

Facebook Comment Gets Employee for DA Fired

In this article it talks about how an employee of the Clayton County, GA DA office was forced to resign to prevent being fired after he posted a comment on WSBTV.com's facebook page in response to a story covering the shooting of a young child that took place over the weekend.  He made comments that touched base on the racial issues that most do not feel are appropriate to say let alone appropriate for an employee of the government to post over the internet for all the world to read.  What is more important than this article itself, is the fact that this article displays the power that social media websites such as facebook have and the profound effect they have on the world and businesses today.  Most employees must have background checks that include his or her facebook pages.  It is a reminder that social media sites are so widely used that what people say on them must be monitored and authors on these sites must truly think before commenting.

Kim Jung Un not as powerful as we think

http://www.cnn.com/video/data/2.0/video/bestoftv/2014/10/13/erin-intv-chang-north-korean-leader-seen-in-photos.cnn.html
This raises a good point that Kim Jung Un might not be as feared or as powerful as he once was.  This could mean that North Korea is being run by a secret entity or at least by an unknown actor.  This could prove to be very scary or dangerous.

North Korea Getting Soft??

This is a pretty interesting video that reveals how North Korean citizens actually live compared to how Kim Jung Un tries to make his country appear.  It shows just how dangerous and cruel North Korea is.  A Real Look Inside North Korea

Unethical Campaign Ad

http://www.cnn.com/2014/10/10/politics/wendy-davis-wheelchair-ad/index.html?hpt=hp_t4

Senator Wendy Davis approved a campaign ad that was an attempted stab at her opponent for being in a wheelchair.  She used an empty wheelchair and made remarks about her opponent using sympathy for his handicap.  It is the epitome of unethical politics.  It is almost a concern that a network would approve to play such an ad. As it says in the article, Wendy Davis will not be able to continue climbing the ranks of the Texas government.

Ello

http://money.cnn.com/2014/09/29/technology/social/ello-issues/index.html

Ello is different than facebook because it requires all users to use his or her real name and it also does not have any advertisement.  Is it going to replace facebook? I think not.  Even with 40,000 people registering an hour the fact that businesses can't advertise will hurt them I think.  People like facebook for the businesses and most businesses require you to have a facebook supporting where you work if they are on facebook.  Unless they become a trendy way to network, I doubt that they will give Facebook much competition.

Isis Beheading Journalist

The second American journalist in 15 days has been beheaded by the terror group ISIS and President Obama does not seem to be as fired up as VP Biden or congress.  Check this article out: http://diaalnews.com/news/15903?gclid=CLmp6LyFyMACFcI-MgodXCQAIw
