In this article it talks about how an employee of the Clayton County, GA DA office was forced to resign to prevent being fired after he posted a comment on WSBTV.com's facebook page in response to a story covering the shooting of a young child that took place over the weekend. He made comments that touched base on the racial issues that most do not feel are appropriate to say let alone appropriate for an employee of the government to post over the internet for all the world to read. What is more important than this article itself, is the fact that this article displays the power that social media websites such as facebook have and the profound effect they have on the world and businesses today. Most employees must have background checks that include his or her facebook pages. It is a reminder that social media sites are so widely used that what people say on them must be monitored and authors on these sites must truly think before commenting.

Though I agree that social media sites have become an important tool for employers, I still feel as though we have begun to lose any sort of privacy. You cannot say what you believe, you cannot say anything controversial, and don't even think of bringing up a touchy topic; if you want to keep your job that is. Though I do believe these comments were entirely inappropriate, it seems we have begun to lose our 1st amendment rights. I would like to see some sort of separation from employment and personal life. Sure, we can all think a little bit more before posting, but constant monitoring of Facebook by employers reminds me of that crazy ex we all have that will manipulate the smallest post you make. Seems a little unfair to me.
